Hiring a Project Coordinator

Q: What do you look for in a project coordinator?
A: I have a routine of how I select people. The most critical person is the project coordinator. One thing that I'll do is I'll give the prospective project coordinator the grant and I'll ask them to read it and then I'll ask them to tell me what they think are going to be problems in doing the study.
Because that's what you want; you want somebody who's able to say and then how would they solve it. Because then you don't have to be involved in the day-to-day; then you can manage multiple projects.
But I'll ask somebody, for example, tell me about your previous job, give me an example of a problem in how you were functioning or how your program or your group was functioning and what steps you took to solve it. If people say 'I never had a situation like that' then that person probably isn't for me.
