Junior MentorsPosted on October 17, 2007 Mid-career mentors can help with the nuts and bolts, suggests Jordan F. Karp (bio). |
I think that another thing that’s been really useful for me because I have numerous mentors — I have Dr. Weiner, I have Dr. Reynolds, Dr. Frank helps me with psychosocial treatment development, Dr. DeLitto from physical therapy helps me with also with treatment development — but these are really senior people. I’ve also utilized some of the junior faculty, especially my friends, Dr. Lenze, Eric Lenze, and Ellen White, and they’ve really been helpful with a lot of the nuts and bolts of moving up in the department — how to hire people — just really negotiating the bureaucracy and making sense of this big machine. So I think that it’s useful to get some junior faculty mentors as well.
