Bake Your Own CakePosted on November 13, 2007 Boris Birmaher (bio) talks about working hard as an early researcher. |
When you are an intern and then a resident you don’t have so much time. Then you have to start with something small, and then join a person who is doing research and then hopefully this person is also going to share with you a little bit - a piece of the cake. And hopefully the cake is tasteful and you like it and you have fun. But little by little then you begin to bake your own cake, but it takes time and patience and a lot of effort.
You don’t work 40 hours a week, no, you work many hours a week, and you work evenings and holidays and you work during your vacation a little bit. You try to balance, but you always are working. It’s impossible to stop and the field has grown so much and there are so many areas that in order to keep with what’s going on, you really have to be involved with this day and night.
