In the Trenches

Posted on November 13, 2007

Boris Birmaher (bio) believes that interactions with patients is a way to discover the best research questions.

For clinical, research I think is the best way to go because then whenever you do the research, and you have your results, you have immediate applications, clinical applications. I’m not saying that the other one is bad; I think that when you have theories, you should also do kind of research. But for clinical research, if you don’t see patients and you’re not in the trenches, you’re only sitting in front of your computer and reading papers and you can have very abstract ideas that are not going to work.
