We started out doing research in the traditional way, which is getting RO1 applications funded through NIH. But a few years ago the Fogarty International Center, which is an arm of the NIH, decided to provide some money for training. And they produced what is called a request for applications, so-called RFA. And this was actually a training program, which is under this umbrella, called the D43 program. So it’s a generic type of program for training individuals in the medical field, in medical sciences.

And this particular program actually required us to train people that we are collaborating with. So that has been wonderful also because we’ve been able to bring people from India here and then send them back and then really strengthen their arms so that they feel more independent, they feel more fulfilled in doing the research rather than just obeying orders from Pittsburgh.
