Finding a Good MentorPosted on February 14, 2006 Bonnie Zima (bio) shares her thoughts on what to look for in a mentor. |
Find a good mentor. A good mentor is somebody who's more senior, who I think has an attitude that there's plenty of room at the top, that is continually stimulating himself or herself intellectually, that is in leadership position so that they can give you their insight in where the direction of the field is going. So you want a mentor who is productive. Too many times junior people go to another junior person because it feels a little overwhelming, and that's not who's going to be able to help you because that person is busy enough developing their own career.
