Hiring the Right PeoplePosted on March 1, 2006 Joe Price (bio) discusses hiring group facilitators. |
When we interviewed people, we would, Patti was very good at knowing how to throw out questions of situations they might encounter in group settings. Now she's been doing this for years with treatment foster care and working up in Oregon with families there, so she had the clinical skills to do that. I'm a developmental psychologist, so I'm sitting back and watching her do this. She had excellent skills in giving questions to our initial group of facilitators about "What would you do if this happened? What would you do if a foster parent said this?"
It was a great way to screen our people in terms of who we want working, and there were some folks we said, "You know what? They'd be great co-facilitators but not a facilitator." And they were. We hired them as co-facilitators, and they were wonderful. Now they were great in that supportive role, but they weren't in terms of that integrative role and being able to do that. I think we picked the right people.
