Working with Post-docsPosted on February 28, 2006 John Landsverk (bio) explains why he enjoys mentoring people in the early stages of their careers. |
I really like mentoring at this level. I like teaching undergraduates, but I wasn't a good enough showman to really be good at it. The other thing is after a while it gets a little boring. I mean, how many introductory sociology texts can you work out of?
What I like working with are post-doctoral and young research scientists because they're really smart, and they're really well-trained. They actually know much more than I do about lots of things, but what they don't know is strategic thinking in how to put it together in terms of what should be those training goals and how you build a career.
