Terminate QuicklyPosted on July 16, 2008 Hire carefully and terminate quickly, advises Hermi R. Woodward (bio). |
You need to be very careful in the selection of the person, and you need to terminate them pretty quickly if you see that it doesn't work, because the longer you tolerate a situation where the employee does not work out, but you do not document and you keep on hoping that ultimately they work out, by the time you get around to wanting to do something about it, you may not be able to proceed as quickly as you would like to because you haven't documented. Universities are very bureaucratic. There's usually a six month period where you have the option of terminating somebody, but once they cross that threshold, it may be be very difficult.
