Andrew A. Nierenberg, M.D.

Dr. Nierenberg's research focuses on the treatment of affective disorders, including treatment-resistant depression, bipolar depression, and juvenile bipolar disorder. He has also explored the longitudinal course of affective disorders, management of antidepressant side effects, and pharmacoepidemiology. He is a member of the NIMH Initial Review Group for Intervention Research and has worked on NIMH contracts for the Systematic Treatment Enhancement Program for Bipolar Disorder (STEP-BD) and Sequential Treatment Alternatives to Relieve Depression (STAR*D). Dr. Nierenberg is also the Principal Investigator for a three-site NIMH/NCCAM study of St. John's Wort for minor depression.
