Building Research Practice Partnerships: Collaboration and Compromise
This course focuses on the process of building strong partnerships between researchers and mental health clinicians. The presenter discusses the research-practice gap, the barriers and incentives to collaborative partnerships, and lessons learned at the Child and Adolescent Services Research Center. She also offers direction on how to build and maintain effective relationships in mental health services and research. Presenter:
Dr. Ann Garland is Associate Director of the Child and Adolescent Services Research Center (CASRC) in San Diego, and Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California at San Diego. Dr. Garland's research addresses factors that influence utilization and effectiveness of community-based youth mental health services. She is interested in perceptions of the effectiveness of services, characterizing community based psychotherapy services for youth, and psychiatric epidemiology of youth in public systems of care.
Audience:
The course is designed for mental health researchers, clinical psychologists, and agency personnel who seek to build an effective partnership between researchers and mental health practitioners.
